Submission call for pattern designers

In the Tauko magazine No 2 we would like to invite you to explore the relation between different elements in your design, the rhythm of the creative process. You can dive deep into music to find your beat, play with contrasting elements, create repetitions of shape, colour, tone, accents or texture, go wild or be very silent. Balancing between sequences of loudness and silence guides you to experiment with visual rhythm. We wish to see your visual beat and how the creative process can make your design dance!

We would love to have your contribution for the Tauko magazine No 2 which will be published in January 2022. The call is open to all pattern designers, people of every race, ethnicity, gender, ability, size, sexual identity, and age.

We are looking for designs made from woven and knitted fabrics for everyday and festive use: jackets, trousers, shirts, skirts, dresses, jumpsuits as well as accessories. We encourage design submissions to be inclusive and mindful of the garments fitting various body shapes and physical abilities. Offering options to modify the design is highly appreciated. Several entries are very welcome.

We have created a mood board for issue 2, spring 2022, please see it over here. The mood board offers visual inspiration for the designs as well as a color palette which is driven by a desire to be uplifted and energized while staying grounded and balanced. We will reconnect with tones of orange and a hint of vivid fuchsia to spark joy. The olive green, blue, grey and buttercream will bring harmony.

Each submission will be carefully reviewed and considered. Designs are selected based on the presented submission alone and how they fit into the specific collection. Note that we do not require you to have an existing portfolio of published patterns, as we take great pride in featuring beginning and less-known designers as well. We are happy to provide help and support along the way if needed!

Compensation is based on the complexity and type of the project, starting from 350€ to 1600€. We provide both the tech and craft editing, as well as modeled photos of your piece/project. Fabric support is provided as well. After a 4-month exclusivity period (beginning from the issue release), designers are free to sell the pattern on their own.

The submission call ends August 22nd, 2021. If your design has been selected, we will notify you by August 27th, 2021. Finished, test sewn patterns and samples must be delivered in early October, exact dates will be specified to you.

QUESTIONS? Please do not hesitate to contact us at magazine[at]

We are also interested in articles, illustrations and photography that reflects the theme of rhythm in visual creativity. Please pass this call along to writers and other creatives you know who might be interested in diving into the rhythmic world of sewing! These proposals can be submitted by email: magazine[at]
