August 23, 2018

Autumn is the best season in Helsinki! After the long summer holidays, people get back to the city and find each other dancing in the open air tent swinging in the rhythms from Mali, head to the annual design market to hunt for the ultimate design bargains or hide in the dark film theatres for days. The last days of August and September are the feast of city festivals!

Helsinki Festival

from 17th of August to 2nd of September

This is the largest arts festival that is annually occupying theatre stages, bars, open city spaces and film theatres around the city. Different acts of classical music to world music, contemporary dance and open rehearsals of theatre plays can be experienced among many international premiers and open air performances. Enjoy the last summer nights at Huvila-teltta venue listening Fatoumata Diawara's deep and soft sound.

During the day you can explore the market venue at former meatpacking district or join in for the gallery tour the see the latest exhibition of Saija Starr. The talented artist painting, Flying Carpets, is exhibited at the TAUKO Flagship store.

Helsinki Design Week

from 6th to 16th of September

Helsinki Design Week encourages designers to open the closed doors of their studios and lets people explore what happens behind the scenes. Open studio and gallery tours, collection launches, open air installations and children's workshops are open for everyone and with free entry during the festival.

The most expected and biggest event of the week is the Design Market that displays the best Finnish design brands selling furniture, interior design and fashion. This is the treasure hunt event, where you can find your favourite design items for bargain prices.

TAUKO will be taking part at the Design Market on the 8th and 9th of September. We will pack the last summer collection pieces and special unique pieces for the market with us. Be sure not to miss the event!

Helsinki International Film Festival, Love and Anarchy

from 20th to 30th of September

The best way to spend the late September days is to empty your calendar from all the scheduled meeting and lose yourself in the world of films. The Love and Anarchy International Film Festival shows international fiction and document films that cannot be seen in any other occasion in Helsinki. Nordic and Finnish film scene is very prominently presented during the festival and every year you can find new favorite directors, actors and script writers to follow.

This year the film festival has partnered with the Design Week prescreening documentaries on rebel fashion designers – the punk icon Vivienne Westwood and iconoclast Alexander McQueen. These two films are surely an endless source of inspiration! Check the screenings 12th and 14th of September. There will be also some surprises after the films!
